The Alcorcón City Council is currently assessing the feasibility of suspending the controversial waste collection fee for the current fiscal year, a measure aimed at alleviating the economic impact on the town's citizens and businesses.

The waste collection fee in Alcorcón has caused considerable discontent among residents due to its high cost. In response, the municipal government has initiated a study to determine the possibility of suspending its application, with an announcement expected soon.
During the Ordinary Plenary Session in March, Candelaria Testa, the mayor of Alcorcón, disclosed that municipal legal and economic services have been tasked with analyzing the fee's suspension. The primary goal is to “alleviate the tax burden on families and businesses in the city,” while also ensuring “legal and economic certainty and adhering to the principle of prudence.”

"Suspending an ordinance is very difficult."

The mayor reiterated this stance in her recent appearance at the presentation of the Health Week, using the same arguments. However, she also emphasized the complexity involved in suspending a municipal ordinance.
Meanwhile, Pedro Moreno, spokesperson for Vox Alcorcón, addressed the issue last week via his Instagram account. Moreno reminded that his party has always opposed this fee and acknowledged the crucial role of resident complaints. He also suggested that Alcorcón citizens who file a claim within 30 calendar days after paying the 2025 fee could receive a refund. Law firms like Lucas Franco Abogados have been offering legal assistance and free forms for this purpose.
Testa highlighted that the study is ongoing, drawing parallels with the annulment of Madrid capital's waste fee by the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM). Although José Luis Martínez-Almeida's Government plans to appeal to the Constitutional Court, an unfavorable ruling could set a significant precedent. The local Executive of Alcorcón has promised to provide further details on the situation in the near future.
