The City Council of Alcalá de Henares has implemented a preventive and coordinated operation for the 2026 Fairs, covering the Fairgrounds, the historic center, and key festive activity zones. The objective is to ensure the smooth running of celebrations and the safety of residents and visitors.
Mayor Judith Piquet, accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security, Orlena de Miguel, visited the Fairgrounds last night to review the plan. De Miguel emphasized the aim for the Fairs to take place in a safe, orderly environment conducive to citizen coexistence, as in the previous three editions.
The operation combines uniformed and plainclothes police presence, preventive checks, drones, and video surveillance cameras, with rapid intervention capabilities and special reinforcement during high-attendance days. Coordination will be managed from the Operational Coordination Center (CECOR), involving Local Police, National Police, Civil Protection, and other emergency services.
160 officers from the Local Police of Alcalá will be deployed, contributing over 1,200 service days, along with more than 1,000 agents from the National Police, including UPR units. Collaboration from other Local Police forces in the Community of Madrid will also be secured.
Civil Protection will provide 35 volunteers for medical attention and logistical support, while the Civil Guard will conduct alcohol breathalyzer checks at the city's access points.
The number of video surveillance cameras has been increased, and security will be enhanced with canine units and units focused on preventing violent youth gangs. Security checkpoints will be established at the Plaza de Cervantes and the Fairgrounds, and large-scale public drinking gatherings will be prohibited.
The operation will focus on four key areas: the Isla del Colegio Fairgrounds, the Plaza de Cervantes, the Huerta del Obispo, and Parque Sementales, with differentiated deployments for high and low attendance days. Measures will also be in place for Cercanías (commuter train) stations.
Councilor Orlena de Miguel highlighted the reinforcement of prevention and coordination among all services to improve response capacity, also calling for citizen responsibility and collaboration. The aim is to replicate the success of last year's operation for safe and peaceful Fairs.
The operation will be complemented by actions from the municipal departments of Health, Public Works, Festivals, and Environment to enhance lighting, fencing, signage, and sanitary conditions in the festive areas.
