The city of Alcalá de Henares has launched its highly anticipated 2026 Fairs and Festivals, inaugurated with a proclamation delivered by the APHISA Association, an organization commemorating its 50th anniversary of commitment to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families.
The opening ceremony included the traditional floral offering by the peñas (local groups), the presentation of the Fair queens, and the placement of the peñas' banner on the City Hall balcony. Mayor Judith Piquet congratulated APHISA members on their "beautiful and fun" proclamation and acknowledged their trajectory, highlighting their "good service to our city" and encouraging them to continue their work.
Piquet emphasized that the association's members are "an example to all" and embody "the best of Alcalá de Henares: a humane, generous, enthusiastic, open, and joyful city." She also invited residents and visitors to fully enjoy the festivities with "your head and with respect, but with all the strength of your heart," underscoring the city's welcoming and festive character.
Prior to the proclamation, the Floral Offering to Cristo de las Peñas took place at the Church of the Convent of the Discalced Carmelites, attended by the peñas, APHISA, and numerous citizens of Alcalá. Following this, the Presentation of the Fair Queens was held in the City Hall's plenary hall.
The Fair Theatre program at the Teatro Salón Cervantes commenced on Friday with the performance of "La Pasión Infinita," written and directed by José Troncoso and starring Pepón Nieto, Claudio Tolcachir, Ana Labordeta, and Avelino Piedad. The festivities continued with the Concerts de La Muralla, featuring a performance by Loquillo, followed by a concert by Efecto Pasillo and a set by DJ Xtinson in the Plaza de Cervantes.
