Sancorganic has surpassed the milestone of 100,000 organic pistachio trees planted on its estates in Valdetorres de Jarama (Madrid) and Cebreros (Ávila), spanning more than 500 hectares. The company manages the entire production cycle, from cultivation to processing and packaging at its facilities in Valdetorres de Jarama. Its ambition is to reach 200,000 pistachio trees, positioning itself as one of the most significant organic pistachio plantations in Europe.
This progress occurs amidst a notable expansion of pistachio cultivation in Spain, which has seen its acreage grow exponentially over the last decade. The country has transitioned from a few hectares in 2015 to over 85,000 by 2025, establishing itself as a market with significant international growth. Sancorganic leverages the favorable climatic conditions of the Iberian interior, characterized by cold winters and dry summers, to meet the increasing global demand for this nut.
Organic certification is a key pillar for Sancorganic. The plantations in Cebreros hold the Certifood seal, while those in Valdetorres de Jarama operate under the accreditation of the Committee of Organic Agriculture of the Community of Madrid (CAEM). This dual certification guarantees the organic traceability of the product from the tree to the final consumer.
The company employs advanced agronomic techniques, such as drip irrigation and soil sensorization to optimize water usage. Furthermore, it implements regenerative practices, including ground cover managed through directed grazing by over 700 sheep, which contribute to the natural fertility of the land.
The processing plant in Valdetorres de Jarama centralizes all processing stages: reception, de-pitting, shelling, drying, and packaging. The facility is designed to handle large volumes and will be expanded as the plantations reach their full yield potential. Sancorganic's operation focuses on four measurable pillars: soil, water, biodiversity, and energy, aiming for sustainability as a fundamental agronomic variable.
