Matadero Madrid and Casa del Lector invite young people and adults to celebrate Book Day with 'Meet & Read', an event that will transform Plaza Matadero into a shared reading space on April 23.

The proposal, titled 'Meet & Read. Shared Reading Festival', will take place on Wednesday, April 23, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The only requirement for participation is that attendees bring a book, turning the urban space into a "literary meadow" for reading and conversation.

"The initiative seeks to transform the urban space into a “literary meadow” where people can read and converse."

José Luis Romo · Artistic Director of Matadero Madrid
The gathering is conceived as a "literary picnic" that will foster cultural coexistence, allowing participants to enjoy reading in the company of friends, neighbors, or even strangers. Plaza Matadero will be set up with grass, hammocks, and tables to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Registered attendees will be welcomed with a soundscape created by composer Luis Miguel Cobo, who has been awarded prizes such as the Max and Godot for his extensive career in music and theater. During the three-hour event, cultural popularizer Fernando Bonete will facilitate the activity, alternating reading with discussion spaces and exchanges of impressions on the texts.
Fernando Bonete, a doctor in Social Communication and university professor, is known for his work as a cultural popularizer on social media, where he has over half a million followers. He is the author of several books and has recently published his first novel, La hija del Fénix.
'Meet & Read' is jointly organized by Matadero Madrid and Casa del Lector, with the collaboration of Penguin Random House and the Escuela de Escritores. The Altamarea bookstore will participate as the official event point.
