The special mobility plan, presented by the Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martín, anticipates a high number of attendees at the scheduled events. Public transport is recommended during these days, as the Metro will operate at peak hour frequencies.
The reinforcement will begin on Saturday, June 6, with increases on lines 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. On Sunday, June 7, lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10 will have doubled frequencies until 9:30 PM. On Monday, June 8, lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, and 10 will see up to a 75% increase between 4:30 PM and 11:00 PM. Finally, on Tuesday, June 9, line 8 will have a 25% reinforcement between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
The plan also includes temporary service suspensions at some stations and trains running without stops at specific points. Nuevos Ministerios station will have its access to Plaza de Lima closed from 5:00 PM on the 6th, returning to normal by 10:00 PM. Cuzco and Santiago Bernabéu stations will remain closed. On Sunday, several central Madrid stations, including Bilbao, Tribunal, Plaza de España, Noviciado, Ópera, Sol, Sevilla, Banco de España, Retiro, Príncipe de Vergara, Serrano, Colón, and Chueca, will not have train stops until 10:00 AM.
The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid will reinforce the night network with 25 additional buses and adapt daytime service to diversions caused by the occupation of Plaza de Lima and the mass at Cibeles. Intercity buses will add 100 vehicles and coordinate with municipalities to match supply with estimated demand.
As part of commemorative actions, Metro will launch a special train wrapped with motifs of the Pontiff's visit on line 4. Intercity buses will also decorate part of their fleet. The Community of Madrid will release 500,000 special edition Multi cards and provide 6,000 pre-loaded cards for organizers and volunteers.
