This Sunday, starting at 8:00 AM, the streets of Madrid were filled with athletes and spectators celebrating the 48th edition of the marathon. The event, known for its blend of sport and live music along the route, has solidified the city's reputation as a global running hub.
The race, organized by the MAPOMA Sports Association, holds the prestigious Gold Label from the International Athletics Federation, placing it among major international events like the New York, London, and Berlin marathons.

The city council's delegate for Sports, Sonia Cea, officially started the three race categories: marathon (42 kilometers), half marathon (21 kilometers), and the 10-kilometer race. The regional minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sport, Mariano de Paco, also emphasized the event's significance for the city.
The Madrid circuit is known for its challenging topography, a factor many runners consider an added incentive. This year, foreign participation exceeded 10,000 athletes, highlighting the marathon's international appeal.
The route, which began on the Paseo de la Castellana, took participants through iconic landmarks such as the Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace, Casa de Campo, Madrid Río, and the Prado Museum, before finishing on the Paseo de Recoletos, between Cibeles and Colón. Aid stations and pace guides were provided to support the runners.
To ensure safety, an extensive deployment included over 200 healthcare professionals from Samur-Protección Civil, as well as officers from the Municipal Police, Fire Department, and Mobility agents, similar to previous editions.
