The 2026 edition of the Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid brought together nearly 47,000 runners, setting a new participation record and establishing the event as a key fixture in the international running calendar.

From early morning, the streets of Madrid were filled with athletes and spectators celebrating one of the city's most significant sporting events. The race, organized by the MAPOMA Sports Association and holding the prestigious Gold Label from the international athletics federation, featured a festive atmosphere, cheered on by thousands of people and music bands positioned along the route.
The starting line was located on the Paseo de la Castellana, offering three modalities: marathon (42 kilometers), half marathon (21 kilometers), and 10K. The delegate councilor for Sports, Sonia Cea, was responsible for giving the starting signal, emphasizing the inclusive and international nature of the event and its role as a true “city celebration.”

"The link between sport, heritage, and the capital's streets is strengthened each year with this event that gains global projection."

The 2026 edition attracted over 10,000 foreign runners from more than a hundred countries, in addition to significant national participation. Many highlighted the demanding nature of the Madrid course, characterized by its uneven profile, as one of its main attractions.
The circuit passed through some of the city's most iconic landmarks, such as the Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace, and the area around the Prado Museum, before finishing at the Paseo de Recoletos. Throughout the day, refreshment points and support services were available, including guide runners ('pacers') to help maintain race paces.
Regarding security, the operation involved over 200 healthcare professionals from Samur-Protección Civil, along with officers from the Municipal Police, Firefighters, and Mobility agents, in an effort similar to previous editions. This event, which extended into the afternoon, reconfirms Madrid as one of the major international running venues, both for its massive participation and the vibrant atmosphere in its streets.
