Eduma commemorates its 50th anniversary in 2026 as an educational entity, ski club, and leisure school. Born in Madrid from the initiative of Eduardo, Maricarmen, and a group of parents who understood leisure as part of the educational process, the organization has trained thousands of children, young people, and monitors over five decades through camps, nature activities, and community experiences.
What began in 1976 with activities organized in tents and small hostels has become, half a century later, one of the most consolidated trajectories in educational leisure linked to Madrid.
Eduma was born from the initiative of Eduardo, Maricarmen, and a group of parents who saw free time as a fundamental part of the educational process and the personal growth of children and young people.
Over these 50 years, more than 60,000 families have participated in Eduma's activities, many of them across several generations, who continue to have their first experiences of autonomy, community, and contact with nature through the entity's camps and educational programs.
Today, children and grandchildren of former participants are growing up in Eduma's camps.
Since its inception, Eduma's philosophy has revolved around a simple idea: “having fun while learning”. With this approach, the entity has developed summer camps, official training for leisure monitors and coordinators, ski activities, and school trips aimed at personal growth and community living.
Its leisure school has already trained over 3,000 students, consolidating an educational model based on responsibility, participation, and learning through experience. Over the decades, hundreds of young people who first participated as campers ended up becoming monitors and leisure coordinators, keeping alive an educational model based on close support and the transmission of values between generations.
Community living, teamwork, and personal autonomy have been some of the pillars present in the activities developed by Eduma since its origins.
Although Eduma's activities have evolved over these 50 years, some destinations are now part of the collective memory of many Madrid families. Salamanca has become one of its most emblematic locations over the last 15 years, while the Sierra de Guadarrama has hosted a large part of its nature and community programs in recent summers. Other nearby destinations such as Toledo, Riaza, Asturias, and various nautical programs on the Mediterranean coast are also part of its activities.
In addition to summer camps, Eduma has spent decades developing ski activities in the Sierra de Madrid and Andorra, as well as end-of-year trips for primary schools.
The entity has collaborated with numerous schools for decades, accompanying thousands of schoolchildren on educational experiences outside the classroom and reinforcing the role of leisure and nature as learning tools.
In recent years, the organization has particularly strengthened activities that promote digital disconnection, face-to-face interaction, and direct contact with nature. In an increasingly technological context, Eduma continues to advocate for experiences where children and young people can develop autonomy, build personal connections, and learn to coexist away from screens.
Half a century after its beginnings, the entity keeps alive the spirit with which it was founded in 1976:
offering spaces to learn, coexist, and grow while enjoying free time. A trajectory that has accompanied several generations of families and continues to be part of the education and leisure of thousands of young people connected to Madrid and other parts of Spain.
