The Alcalá de Henares City Council, in collaboration with Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales, deployed a special cleaning operation during the past Holy Week to manage the increased waste generated by the influx of over 100,000 visitors and nearly 4,000 brotherhood members.

This operation was activated before, during, and after the celebrations, which included 15 processions and the traditional Vía Crucis. The large number of attendees significantly increased activity in the city's historic center.
The plan was structured into three key phases: prior preparation, continuous monitoring during the processions, and subsequent adaptation of spaces. The main objective was to ensure that the cleaning service was tailored to the specific needs of the events and the high public presence.
In the initial phase, mechanized sweeping and washing tasks were carried out on the processional routes, preparing the streets for each parade and ensuring an appropriate environment. During the processions, cleaning teams maintained an active presence, performing manual sweeping ahead of the floats to immediately remove last-minute waste and keep the streets in optimal condition without interfering with the events.

This real-time action was crucial to ensure the continuity of the event in a clean and orderly environment, especially during peak attendance.

Once the celebrations concluded, work continued with thorough cleaning, including the use of hot pressurized water to remove wax residues and other typical waste from these events. These actions were primarily concentrated in the historic center and the main processional routes, the areas with the highest public space usage during Holy Week.
The Council highlighted that this type of operation allows the Cleaning Service to adapt to high-attendance events, maintaining the city's cleanliness and sanitation. Simultaneously, Alcalá de Henares' regular cleaning service continued to operate, adjusting to the demands of the event calendar and daily urban activity.
