The Getafe City Council has begun the process to award the title of Adoptive Son to the coach of Getafe Club de Fútbol, in recognition of his outstanding career and deep connection with the municipality.

The initiative, proposed by the mayor, seeks to highlight the coach's “extraordinary” sporting contribution and his identification with local values. The Consistory emphasizes his “deep identification with the sentiment, the culture of effort, and the spirit of overcoming challenges of the municipality's residents,” as well as his commitment to the club at various key moments.

"Beyond the results on the field, his career is marked by hard work and discipline, values of overcoming difficulties that fully align with the city's identity."

The City Council specifically recalled his role in the team's promotion in the 2016/17 season, when he managed to lead the team from relegation positions in Segunda B to the Primera División in just nine months, a comeback described as “historic”.
The coach's return in 2023 is also cited as an example of his commitment, as he took over the bench in a critical situation and achieved a dramatic salvation in the final matchdays. During his tenure, the club reached its best historical classification with a fifth place in the 2018/19 season, which allowed for qualification to European competition and participation in the Europa League 2019/20, with moments such as the “mythical playoff” against Ajax of Amsterdam.
The Consistory also highlights the support of the fans through the Federation of Fan Clubs and notes that the coach has been a key player in the team's permanence in the Primera División for 21 of the last 22 seasons. The proposal will now be submitted to the municipal bodies for final approval within the Regulations of Honors and Distinctions.
