A team of six researchers from the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) has received the first prize for best article at the recent International Congress SSTD 2026. The symposium focused on tourism and resident well-being, discussing how this industry can contribute to the economic, social, and emotional development of communities.
The awardees, Rocío González Sánchez, Sofía Blanco Moreno, Teresa Villacé Molinero, Laura Fuentes Moraleda, Miriam Menchero Sánchez, and Nuria Morère, presented their paper titled: ‘Sustainability governance at World Heritage sites: From institutional discourse to digital footprint data analytics‘. This work delves into a little-explored area: the management of world heritage sites from a business perspective and the use of new technologies.
The research analyzes sustainability through data analysis, examining the digital footprint left by tourists at world heritage sites in the Community of Madrid. The study proposes that heritage site managers can use this information to optimize the experience for both visitors and local residents.
