The municipal group Más Madrid-Compromiso con Getafe will present a proposal at the next plenary session demanding urgent measures from the Community of Madrid to address the housing crisis and regulate prices.

The municipal group Más Madrid-Compromiso con Getafe has announced it will bring a proposal to the next plenary session to demand "urgent measures from the Community of Madrid regarding the severe housing access crisis affecting the city," along with the application of the Housing Law.
The party's spokesperson, Ana González Mariscal, stated that rents and property sales in Getafe are "once again at historic highs." According to the group, the Popular Party "continues to embrace its friends, the investment funds, and refuses to apply the Housing Law or take measures to regulate exorbitant prices."
The organization highlights that Getafe has begun 2026 with a "new runaway increase in housing prices." Rents have risen by more than 25% compared to the previous year, with the average monthly rent now around 1,385 euros, while the average purchase price exceeds 300,000 euros.
The situation is particularly concerning in neighborhoods like Las Margaritas and the northern part of the Centro district, where prices have surged more than in other areas. The proximity to the Universidad Carlos III exerts greater pressure on rents, both for full apartments and individual rooms.
The proposal demands that the Community of Madrid government apply the Housing Law, declare Getafe a stressed residential market area, and "urgently implement the limitation of rental prices."
Furthermore, it calls on the regional government to promote "a regional housing law that regulates all types of rentals, including temporary and room rentals, to protect tenants."
Más Madrid Compromiso con Getafe also urges the regional president to prioritize the construction of public housing and direct management, rather than "the botched Plan Vive."
The party adds that "in a city like ours, built by workers and ordinary people, the average price to buy an apartment today is no less than €200,000." "We are talking about prices that are absolutely incompatible with the salary reality of many working families in Getafe," they stated.
