The mayor of Getafe, Sara Hernández, has voiced her displeasure with the Community of Madrid's decision to establish the new aerospace district in the region's northern area, excluding her municipality, which she considers a key driver in the sector.

Hernández, from the PSOE party, has expressed her reproach towards the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, for the planning that omits Getafe, despite its significance as the «third aerospace engine of Europe» within this field.

"Getafe will continue to lead investment in the sector in Spain."

The mayor used social media to question the «reasons» behind this decision, suggesting they might be ideological. Her statements follow the announcement by the Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment, Rocío Albert, regarding the launch of the Northern industrial district this year.
This new district, to be located in Alcobendas, San Sebastián de los Reyes, and Tres Cantos, will focus on the biopharma and aerospace sectors. It will offer services such as a single point of contact, tailored training plans, and collaboration networks among companies, universities, and research centers. Additionally, it aims to support businesses with measures like local tax bonuses and promotion of internationalization.
The Getafe Government had already interpreted its exclusion as a «disregard» for its industrial history and potential when the idea of the aerospace district in the northern zone was first proposed several months ago.
