The A-5 highway underground project has entered a new structural phase connecting the tunnel to the expansion section, directly affecting traffic flow for residents in Alcorcón.

The tunneling project, which has been underway for eighteen months, is reaching a critical stage with the integration of the A-5M-30 tunnel into the new section. According to official statements from the Madrid City Council, significant progress is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Regarding traffic management, the former access ramp will see its capacity reduced from 4+3 to 3+3 lanes. Furthermore, the access to the highway from Paseo de Extremadura will be closed, a change that is expected to cause temporary congestion until the works are fully finalized.
The final design of the new tunnel includes two lanes for general traffic and one dedicated bus lane. This layout aims to improve vehicle flow while prioritizing public transport in one of the busiest corridors of the Madrid Region.
