The town of Torrelodones will serve as a key reception point for around 600 pilgrims traveling to Madrid for the Apostolic Journey of Pope Leo XIV to Spain, scheduled from June 6th to 9th. Pilgrims will be accommodated in Torrelodones from June 5th to 7th to participate in the main events.
The central events they will attend include the Vigil scheduled for the 6th at 8:30 PM, and the Holy Mass and Corpus Christi Procession to be led by the Pope in Plaza de Cibeles on the 7th at 10:00 AM.
The coordination of the reception will be managed by the Security and Sports departments of the Torrelodones City Council, following the guidelines of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and in close collaboration with the Peñalar and San Ignacio de Loyola schools, as well as the parishes of Asunción de Nuestra Señora and San Ignacio de Loyola.
The first preparatory meeting to organize the operation took place this morning, attended by the councilors for Security and Sports, the director of the Peñalar school, Daniel Lozano, and representatives from the involved parishes.
Regarding lighting and decoration, the Torrelodones City Council is coordinating with various companies to provide breakfast for the pilgrims, with the support of Día supermarkets. Additionally, the roundabouts at Félix Schlayer and the entrance to the Shopping Center will be adorned with plants and flowers in white and yellow, symbolizing the Vatican flag, courtesy of Verdecora. The iconic Torre de los Lodones will be illuminated in yellow for the occasion.
