“"This historic strike is a cry of hope that denounces the precariousness of a fundamental educational stage. Staff report conditions that compromise the quality of teaching and the well-being of children. With salaries stagnant at the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI), remuneration does not reflect the real responsibility of their work nor cover their basic vital needs."

Childcare workers in Collado Villalba have called a protest this Tuesday, May 12, at the Miguel Hernández Municipal Library, following a month-long indefinite strike to denounce precarious working conditions.
The mobilization, which began on April 7 in the Community of Madrid and spread nationwide on May 7, aims to highlight the "institutional neglect" that, according to those affected, the sector is experiencing. The protest will take place at 6:00 PM in the Ágora of the Miguel Hernández Municipal Library.
The professionals also criticize the current ratios, which they consider unacceptable: 8 babies per classroom for 0-year-olds, 12 for 1-year-olds, and 20 for 2-year-olds. This high number of students per educator generates constant stress and hinders the individualized attention essential for these ages. They assert their fundamental role in the educational model, seeking to overcome the merely welfare-oriented view that employers and institutions have of the sector.
Recently, a trade union organization had already warned about the "institutional abandonment" affecting public childcare centers in Collado Villalba. It has been pointed out that maintenance and management problems are deteriorating educational quality and endangering the health of both students and teaching and service staff.
