Valdemorillo's Youth Department is resuming the 'Checkmate' chess course in October, aimed at children and young people aged 8 and over, with the goal of developing logical reasoning and promoting the hobby of this game.

The activity, held on Friday afternoons at the Casa de Juventud, seeks to introduce this classic game, recognized as a sport by the IOC and FIDE, to new generations. Participants will learn rules, improve their concentration skills, and develop strategies to anticipate their opponent's moves.
The Councilor for Youth and Sports, Eva Ruiz, highlights the "social and educational dimension" of chess, which offers a "great opportunity to improve knowledge" and facilitates "digital disconnection" among the youngest, promoting an educational leisure activity without screens.

"the social and educational dimension that chess practice achieves, facilitating, at least for a few hours, digital disconnection, which is so necessary among the youngest, who can thus enjoy an educational and leisure activity without being dependent on any screen"

Eva Ruiz · Councilor for Youth and Sports
Classes will be held on Fridays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, starting in October. The course is supported financially by the Community of Madrid, through the Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Policy, which allows for a monthly fee of 15 euros per participant.
Registrations are now open and will continue until all available spots are filled. For more information, interested individuals can contact by phone at 91 899 02 70 or via email at info.juventud@aytovaldemorillo.com.
