The lack of a significant increase in donations in recent days has led to six specific blood groups —0+, 0-, A+, A-, B- and AB-— being placed on red alert. This situation highlights the critical need for citizen participation to replenish supplies.
Currently, the Transfusion Center's warehouses hold 2,276 bags, a figure well below the optimal safety level of 5,000 units. To ensure the proper functioning of Madrid's healthcare network and cover the needs of all centers, approximately 900 daily donations are required.
“"Reserves are at 46%, and that is why we ask citizens to come and donate life."
This vital resource is essential for patient care in emergencies, scheduled surgeries, and hematological treatments. Health authorities emphasize that blood cannot be artificially manufactured and its components have a limited shelf life, requiring a constant and balanced influx of donations.
The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, appealed to the solidarity of Madrid's residents during her speech at the II Primary Care Day Conference, held at the Real Casa de Correos, urging the population to reverse this deficit and ensure healthcare coverage throughout the region.
Those interested in collaborating can go to the regional Transfusion Center in Valdebernardo, to any of the 30 public network hospitals with donation rooms, to mobile units deployed throughout the region in collaboration with the Red Cross, or to the Red Cross headquarters at Juan Montalvo Street, 3. Minimum requirements include being between 18 and 65 years old, weighing more than 50 kilos, and being in good health.
