The municipal groups PSOE and Más Madrid Alcobendas will present a joint initiative at the upcoming Council meeting to support Early Childhood Education for ages 0-3, demanding improvements in ratios, funding, and working conditions within the Community of Madrid.

The PSOE and Más Madrid Alcobendas parties have jointly registered a proposal for debate at the next municipal council meeting. The aim is to support Early Childhood Education for the 0-3 age group and request structural changes in the educational system of the Community of Madrid, highlighting the need to strengthen this educational stage and improve sector conditions.
The initiative, titled “In support of Early Childhood Education 0-3 and the professionals who sustain it,” seeks institutional recognition for those working in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education, while also demanding measures to enhance service quality and improve working conditions in the sector.
Both municipal groups emphasize that Early Childhood Education 0-3 is a distinct stage, crucial for the affective, physical, social, and cognitive development of young children. They also highlight its role in work-life balance and its impact on social cohesion. The proposal emerges amidst an indefinite strike initiated in April by professionals in this field within the Community of Madrid.
The proposal's text includes several key demands for system improvement: progressive reduction of classroom ratios, the introduction of an educational assistant role, reinforcement of specialized support, and the guarantee of sufficient and stable funding. These actions, according to the proponents, are essential for ensuring adequate educational attention and dignified working conditions.

"The sustainability of the system cannot depend on the additional effort of its professionals."

Ángel Sanguino · Spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group
The spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group, Ángel Sanguino, stressed that the educational system's sustainability should not rely on the extra effort of professionals, underscoring the Community of Madrid's responsibility in managing the educational model. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Más Madrid Alcobendas, Mariano Cañas Velasco, linked the collective's demands to educational quality, advocating for a more stable and inclusive system.
The initiative also calls for strengthening the public network of early childhood centers and advancing towards coherent system planning. It proposes forwarding the resulting agreement to the Education Department of the Community of Madrid, parliamentary groups in the regional Assembly, and sector unions and platforms, aiming to place 0-3 Early Childhood Education on the institutional agenda and promote an accessible, high-quality model throughout the region.
