This Thursday, April 16, Café Central invites musicians and the public to participate in an open day symbolizing the "death and resurrection of jazz." The event will begin at 5:00 PM from the entrance of the venue, which has been a cultural landmark in the capital since 1982, when it was established in what was previously a glass shop.
Musicians, clients, former colleagues, and other friends are invited to participate in a public farewell: a Jazz Funeral and Resurrection that is, in itself, an act of transformation. Those who wish can join, musicians are invited to come with their instruments.
The musical procession will depart from Plaza del Ángel and wind through the streets of Madrid to the new headquarters on Calle Santa Catalina. This collective ritual aims to symbolically transfer the energy, history, and memory of the old venue, freeing Café Central from its physical ties to the original space and allowing it to continue as a living project.
The new phase at the Ateneo de Madrid, coinciding with the centenary of figures like Miles Davis and John Coltrane, will allow Café Central to maintain its usual program of two daily concerts. Additionally, La Cátedra del Ateneo, a historic auditorium with exceptional acoustics, will be used to expand the artistic offerings.
Among the artists who have already confirmed their presence in this new stage are Joshua Edelman, Jorge Pardo, Guillermo McGill, Cecilia Krull, Lluís Coloma, Sheila Blanco, Federico Lechner, and Ignasi Terraza. Café Central thus reaffirms its vocation to be a meeting point for live music, beyond its physical location.
