The delegate for Urbanism of the Madrid City Council, Borja Carabante, has defended that the planned installation on Los Morales street, in the PAU of Carabanchel, is a small shed for storing gardening equipment and not a cleaning depot.

The delegate for Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility of the Madrid City Council, Borja Carabante, has defended that the installation planned on Los Morales street, in the PAU of Carabanchel, “is not even a canton,” as it is “basically a shed where gardeners keep tools,” as he explained in an interview on Onda Madrid.
The delegate's statements come after residents in the area expressed concern about the project and considered possible mobilizations similar to those that have occurred in Montecarmelo against the cleaning depot planned in that neighborhood.
Carabante insisted that the Carabanchel installation cannot be compared to a cleaning depot and sought to minimize the scope of the municipal action. He indicated that the intended use would be linked to the maintenance of green areas and the storage of gardening material.
The delegate mentioned that the councilor-president of the Carabanchel district, Carlos Izquierdo, has already met with residents to address their concerns and seek a solution that balances the needs of the municipal service with the demands of the neighborhood.
Neighborhood concern intensifies following the decision of Administrative Litigation Court number 23 of Madrid, which a week ago ordered the immediate precautionary suspension of the works for the cleaning depot planned in Montecarmelo. The judicial order noted possible nullity defects in the administrative process and considered that continuing with the execution of the works could cause damages “difficult to repair”.
This resolution has focused attention on other municipal projects related to urban service facilities in different neighborhoods of the region. In the case of the PAU of Carabanchel, the City Council insists that the planned action is smaller in scale and has a different purpose than the Montecarmelo depot.
However, the Urbanism department maintains open dialogue with the residents to prevent the conflict from escalating and becoming a new focal point of mobilization against the municipal government. The council's strategy is to demonstrate that these are facilities of a different nature and to strengthen communication with the affected residents.
