The Madrid City Council has designed a special operation to decorate the capital with the colors of the Vatican. The decoration includes planting 100,000 yellow and white flowers at iconic locations such as Plaza de Cibeles, Retiro Park, and the Puerta de Alcalá, in addition to installing 1,600 banners along the main routes.
The official agenda includes the Pope receiving the Golden Key of the City on June 7. To facilitate mobility and provide information to citizens, 30 EMT Madrid buses have been wrapped with the official image, and tourist information desks will be set up at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.
“"The historic visit will place Madrid in the national and international spotlight for several days."
As part of the cultural offerings, the Madrid sacro route has been created, covering 14 historic churches and monasteries, including the Almudena Cathedral and the Temple of Debod. Additionally, several municipal museums will participate in an open-house event with extended hours during the night of June 6 to 7.
