The Community of Madrid has organized a special operation for observing the total solar eclipse that will take place on August 12th. 52 observation points will be set up in various municipalities, with particular focus on the Sierra Norte, considered a privileged location due to its visibility conditions. This astronomical phenomenon, the first in a series of eclipses visible from Spain, has not been observed in its totality in the Iberian Peninsula since 1905.
The main event will be held in Buitrago del Lozoya with the Eclipse Festival, organized in collaboration with the City Council. The Riosequillo Pools Recreational Area will host educational, scientific, cultural, and family activities, along with food trucks, music, and workshops. Access will be free, subject to online registration, until the maximum capacity of 3,000 people is reached.
To ensure safe viewing, 36,500 certified glasses will be distributed at the observation points. These glasses include a QR code with additional information about the event. The Council of Education, Science, and Universities will also lend the exhibition Trío de Eclipses, which explores the historical, scientific, and artistic significance of the phenomenon.
The Madrid 112 Security Agency (ASEM 112) has planned a reinforcement of resources and the activation of the Territorial Civil Protection Plan (PLATERCAM) to ensure citizen safety. The involvement of Civil Protection Volunteer Groups is requested, and citizens are reminded of the importance of taking extreme precautions due to high temperatures and preventing fires.
The Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) will strengthen public transport lines connecting the capital with observation areas, such as line 191 (Madrid-Buitrago del Lozoya) and line 193 (Madrid-Pedrezuela-Venturada), departing from the Plaza de Castilla Interchange. Attendees are advised to plan their travel, use public transport, and follow the authorities' instructions.
