The Palacio de Cibeles was the setting for the presentation of the 48th edition of the Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid. The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, along with the deputy mayor Inma Sanz, the delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, and the councilor delegate for Sport, Sonia Cea, highlighted the importance of this event that will run through the heart of the capital on April 26.
“"This event is not just another race; it is Madrid, due to the emotional bond it maintains with the citizens, being one of the events that Madrileños hold so dear and that best represents an open and welcoming city."
Martínez-Almeida emphasized the international dimension of the event, considering it one of the main "windows to the world" for showcasing Madrid's most emblematic corners. He also highlighted sports values such as effort, sacrifice, and teamwork, encouraging Madrileños to support the runners throughout the course.
The 2026 edition will maintain its three usual distances: marathon, half marathon, and 10 kilometers, allowing for the participation of a wide range of profiles. More than 10,000 foreign runners are expected, coming from over 110 countries, representing a quarter of the total registrants. Additionally, participants from other regions of Spain also account for more than 25%.
Beyond its sporting relevance, the race is a significant economic driver for the city. A report by the European University revealed that the 2025 edition generated an economic impact of 70.8 million euros, 4.9 million more than the previous year, and attracted over 88,000 visitors to the capital, with an added value of 33 million euros. The average expenditure per participant was 250 euros for national runners and 573 euros for international runners, with a return of 22.1 euros for every euro invested. Nearly 53% of the runners came from outside Madrid, underscoring its attractiveness and contribution to the local economy.
