The Community of Madrid has inaugurated the 41st Children's and Youth Book Fair, a prominent initiative gathering 220 titles published in 2025 to promote reading among children and young people across approximately 125 libraries in the region.
This edition, one of the most established nationwide, aims to bring the most relevant new publications from the publishing landscape closer to readers. The program is structured into five itinerant exhibitions that will visit around 125 libraries in nearly 100 municipalities and districts of the Community of Madrid.
The arrival of the exhibition in each locality becomes a significant cultural event, complemented by various reading promotion activities. In the previous call, over 35,000 children actively participated in these proposals, demonstrating the initiative's success and reception.
The selection of works has been meticulous, carried out by a multidisciplinary team comprising librarians, teachers, editors, booksellers, authors, and other specialists in children's and youth literature. This group has rigorously evaluated the quality of the texts, illustrations, editorial excellence, and their suitability for the target audience, covering all age groups up to 16 years old.
The exhibition offers a wide variety of genres, including illustrated albums, comics, informative books, narrative, poetry, and theater, providing a representative overview of current production in this field. Furthermore, the initiative is enriched with an annotated catalog detailing each selected work, including bibliographic data and reviews highlighting their literary, artistic, didactic, and educational qualities, serving as a reference tool for families, teachers, and professionals in the educational and library sectors.
Within the framework of the exhibition, the 9th Children's and Youth Book Fair Award has been granted to the poetry collection Haikus para detener un tren, by Fran Pintadera, with illustrations by Ina Hristova and published by Libre Albedrío. This annual award recognizes the literary and artistic quality of the work, as well as the editorial effort, among the 220 titles included in the exhibition.
