The Governing Board of Madrid has approved a new 68.4 million euro contract for the conservation and maintenance of various public areas for five years.

The Madrid City Council has given the green light to a new service contract for the conservation and maintenance of municipal facilities. This agreement, valid for five years without extension possibility, includes a multi-year expenditure of 68.4 million euros. The initiative, driven by the Department of Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility, aims to improve the cleanliness and upkeep of public spaces crucial for citizens, such as children's play areas, senior zones, sports circuits, and dog parks, ensuring compliance with European safety regulations.
This contract covers the maintenance and conservation of a total of 3,102 spaces within the city. Of these, 2,163 are children's play areas, 393 are designated for seniors for exercise, 319 are elementary sports circuits, and 227 are dog parks. The service will also extend to new areas constructed during the contract's term.
The agreement reinforces the municipal commitment to the safety and quality of these spaces through a system that includes periodic inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair work. Planned actions encompass facility cleaning, maintenance of impact-absorbing surfaces, replacement of deteriorated elements, graffiti removal, and renewal of safety certificates.
Furthermore, the service will integrate digital tools for comprehensive management, featuring a permanently updated georeferenced inventory, real-time incident tracking, and integration with municipal platforms to optimize planning and response.
The tender also incorporates sustainability and environmental quality criteria, requiring the use of approved materials, responsible waste management, vehicles with environmental badges, and compliance with efficiency and noise emission reduction standards. It also includes social clauses to ensure workplace safety, equality, and accessibility in service provision.
