Letras de Costa Rica will celebrate its fifth edition at Casa de América, Madrid. Since its creation in 2022, the festival has established itself as a space dedicated to promoting, making visible, and internationalizing Costa Rican literature, and to strengthening cultural exchange between Costa Rica and Spain.
Throughout its five years of trajectory, the initiative has brought together writers, publishers, readers, academics, cultural managers, and diplomatic representatives in Madrid through dialogue panels, book presentations, talks, and professional meetings. Its reach has also extended to other cultural spaces in Spain, including the Madrid Book Fair, Sant Jordi's Day in Barcelona, and the Lata Peinada bookstore.
The 2026 edition will feature the participation of Arnoldo Ramos, Rod Saturnine, Jürgen Ureña, José Fernando Álvarez, Marjorie Ross, Silvia Campos, and Roberto Cambronero, representing different generations and fields of Costa Rican literary, theatrical, and audiovisual creation. Among them, Marjorie Ross stands out, recipient of the Premio Nacional de Cultura Magón, Costa Rica's highest cultural distinction.
With the support of Casa de América and the Embassy of Costa Rica in Spain, Letras de Costa Rica continues to strengthen the presence of Costa Rican authors and works in the Spanish cultural sphere and is consolidating itself as a meeting point for the international dissemination and circulation of the country's literature.
The event's program, taking place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Sala Miguel de Cervantes at Casa de América (access via Plaza de Cibeles, sn), includes a welcome, a panel on contemporary Costa Rican narrative, a literary interlude with poetry reading, and another panel on Costa Rican dramaturgy, followed by audience questions. Entry is free until capacity is reached.
