After a summer tour that included the Festival Clásicos en Alcalá and El Escorial, the Madrid-based company is back home. 'Nascencia', premiered in June, is a suite of contemporary Spanish dance that moves from wound to reconstruction, offering an emotional journey about the ability to start anew.
The creation, directed and choreographed by Mónica Fernández, fuses flamenco, folklore, Spanish dance, and contemporary styles. It features live music and choreography by Rubén Olmo. Stage direction is shared by Mónica Fernández and Raúl Alonso, with lighting design by Pedro Yagüe, costumes by Mónica Fernández and Jasanzo, and image design by Manel Pujol Balada. Musical direction is by Lucky Losada, accompanied by musicians Agustín Diassera, Jesús Calluela, Padre Soler, Lucky Losada, Vaqui Losada, Iván Losada, and David Cerreduela.
This production arrives two years after the ballet's presentation, an initiative driven by the Minister of Culture, Mariano de Paco Serrano. The company has consolidated under the direction of Barcelona-born dancer Mónica Fernández, who boasts extensive training and a notable career, having been a principal dancer and assistant director with the Ballet Flamenco Antonio Canales.
The season in the capital will serve to showcase the work developed by the company in recent months. 'Nascencia' will be performed at the Sala Roja of Teatros del Canal until October 4th.
Additionally, on September 29th, the gala 'Creación' will be presented, an initiative designed to foster the creativity of the company's own dancers, providing them a space to research and experiment.
Future projects for the ballet include the premiere of 'Cibeles' in December and a tribute to Encarnación López, La Argentinita, and the Generation of '27 in April.
