Municipal sources explained that Acosta will cease his duties as deputy mayor but will retain the presidency of the Municipal Sports City Autonomous Body and his responsibilities for District II.
This measure comes after months of friction between the People's Party and Vox within the local government. The City Council indicates that Vox has blocked budget negotiations since December, conditioning any agreement on direct access to municipal accounting, a possibility the local administration deems incompatible with its ordinary functioning.
Given the inability to approve new accounts, the government initiated a budget modification of nearly 68 million euros. Although Vox initially supported the measure in committee, they later voted against it in the plenary session, preventing its approval.
The local executive believes this change in stance and Acosta's subsequent public statements, which questioned the governing team without providing evidence, have eroded the trust necessary for his high-confidence role.
The City Council emphasizes that while political disagreement is legitimate, it is incompatible to hold a position of high trust while publicly questioning the government one is part of.
Despite the dismissal, the municipal government reiterates its willingness to dialogue and collaborate with Vox council members to ensure institutional stability and advance the city's projects.
The decision occurs weeks after Acosta was reported for alleged offenses of sexual harassment, workplace harassment, threats, and disclosure of secrets. Following the report, Vox confirmed the initiation of an internal legal review and expressed respect for ongoing judicial proceedings.
