The project, part of the ‘Alcalá Improves its Neighborhoods’ Plan, aims to enhance pedestrian accessibility and modernize existing urban infrastructure in the area, responding to a long-standing demand from residents.
The project affects several streets in the vicinity of the low-rise houses located between Azucena street and Paseo de la Alameda, also including Ambrosio Morales street and Don Quijote street. The objective is to improve the current condition of the pavements, which show deterioration due to use and the passage of time.
Judith Piquet emphasized the importance of this comprehensive urban environment reform, noting that the neighborhood still had its original sidewalks and had not undergone improvement works until now. The mayor highlighted that this intervention addresses a neighborhood demand pending for decades and will contribute to improving accessibility, safety, and quality of life in the area.
Key actions include the complete renovation of sidewalks and roadways. New pavement will be installed on Azucenas and Paseo de la Alameda streets. On Ambrosio Morales and Don Quijote, a single-level platform with concrete paving stones will be implemented, placing the sidewalk and roadway at the same level to promote universal accessibility and coexistence.
The project also includes widening sidewalks to a minimum width of 1.80 meters, incorporating tactile paving at pedestrian crossings, and improving signage to enhance pedestrian safety and mobility.
The works will also involve demolition, pavement renewal, execution of new wearing courses, installation of curbs, adaptation of tree pits, as well as the replacement of affected services and drainage improvements.
As an infrastructure improvement, the current overhead telephone network lines, which hindered passage for people with mobility issues, will be eliminated. This infrastructure will be buried through new underground conduits, reducing visual impact and increasing safety.
During the execution of the works, temporary diversions and signage measures will be implemented to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles, minimizing inconvenience to residents. Information mechanisms will also be established to communicate the start and progress of the works.
