The inaugural day of the festivities in Alcorcón, which began on April 8, included the traditional floral offering at 6:00 PM, followed by a mass at 7:15 PM. The highlight of the evening was the opening speech, delivered at 8:00 PM by Mari Carmen Pontes, a lifelong resident deeply connected to the local history.
Pontes, whose family has operated iconic businesses in Alcorcón such as a dairy, a pastry shop, and an ice store, shared her personal story intertwined with the city. She was accompanied by Mayor Candelaria Testa during the speech, officially marking the start of the celebrations.
“"We speak with Mari Carmen Pontes, who brings us her personal story, deeply linked to Alcorcón, where her family ran emblematic businesses such as a dairy, a pastry shop, or an ice cream shop."
The festival program will continue with notable events such as the popular pilgrimage on Friday, April 10, at 12:00 PM. On Saturday, April 11, considered the main day, the High Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, followed by a procession, solidifying these festivities as a key event in the local calendar.
Concurrently with the celebrations, the Alcorcón City Council has launched an emergency plan to repair potholes in the streets, caused by recent rains and low temperatures. This initiative, active since early March, prioritizes high-traffic roads to ensure road safety.
The work includes repairing cracks and sinkholes, with temporary solutions for the most urgent cases. This plan will be complemented in the summer with a comprehensive repaving program, aiming to significantly improve the overall condition of Alcorcón's urban infrastructure.
