Rehabilitation works on the old municipal public matadero in Ciempozuelos have now begun. These projects, which will last several months, will turn this building, one of the most emblematic in the municipality, into a modern meeting space for residents.
The mayor and councilor for Urbanism, Raquel Jimeno, described the news as "great news that we all celebrate." "With this rehabilitation, we are recovering part of our history, which was one of the objectives I set for myself when I took office," she stated, expressing her satisfaction that "the matadero joins the list of restored buildings that we began last term with the rehabilitation of the old town hall."
The project, drafted by DAU Arquitectura, aims to maintain the essence of the building, constructed around 1890 and considered a fine example of 19th-century industrial architecture, being one of the most modern mataderos in the Community of Madrid at the time. According to Jimeno, "It is one of our great architectural jewels. It cost 36,000 pesetas to build, a large sum for the era, and it was the envy of the region."
The company UTE Kerkide – Trenasa, the winner of the tender, will be responsible for carrying out the work. The project also includes the demolition of the canopy of the old gas station on Calle Jerónimo del Moral, a request that has long been made by many residents.
