The city of Móstoles is commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Municipal Police Canine Unit, under the slogan "30 years walking together". The celebrations, running from October 14th to 16th, include an institutional event at the Teatro del Bosque and the 1st Military and Police Canine Handlers Championship.
The inaugural day featured a presentation on the "History of the Conferences and championships held in the City of Móstoles". Subsequently, the official anniversary ceremony took place, attended by the mayor, Manuel Bautista, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Security, Gabriel Monteserín, the Principal Commissioner of the Municipal Police, Juan Manuel Arribas, and the Chief Officer of the Canine Unit, José López, along with other commanders and officers.
Representatives from the Royal Guard, the Canine Service of the Guardia Civil, the Madrid Municipal Police Canine Handlers Section, the Military Canine Center of Defense, the Breeding Center of Ávila, Mossos d'Esquadra, Navarre Regional Police, and local police from Torrejón de Ardoz, Villanueva de la Cañada, and Toledo also attended the event.
After reviewing the unit's 30-year history, awards were presented to current and former members, institutions, and collaborators. Commemorative plaques were also given, including two to the mayor and the first deputy mayor in recognition of their support for the unit.
Mayor Manuel Bautista highlighted the "very special relationship" between an officer and their dog, based on "trust, respect, and a complicity" that goes beyond training, forming a "true team".
The mayor also emphasized that "security is also an indispensable condition for the coexistence, freedom, and well-being of our citizens", and thanked "all those who have made these thirty years of history possible".
On Friday, October 16th, the Móstoles bullring will host the exhibition and final of the 1st Military and Police Canine Handlers Championship, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The event will include the flag-raising ceremony with the Spanish Anthem and demonstrations of detection, obedience, agility, and defense by agents from various units.
The championship, which has held previous rounds in other locations since March, will take place at the Móstoles bullring on the 15th, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, featuring police detection dog trials, defense and attack exercises, and finals for obedience and jumping.
