The Community of Madrid has awarded the first phase of the comprehensive renovation of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, with an investment of 60 million euros, to commence works before the year concludes.

The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has approved the award for the works corresponding to the first phase, designated Phase 0, of the comprehensive renovation of the Gregorio Marañón public Hospital. The investment amounts to 60 million euros, and the work will begin before the end of the current year.
This intervention will focus on the area of the hospital complex near Doctor Castelo street, in Madrid. The Translational Building will be constructed there, housing the Advanced Planning and 3D Printing Unit and other facilities, along with a new building for the Pharmacy Service. The latter will centralize the storage, preparation, and distribution of medications and will be connected to the rest of the complex via a robotized underground gallery.
Phase 0 also includes the expansion of the Radiotherapy and Radioprotection facilities, with a dedicated area for their administrative and protection zones, as well as a basement bunker to house one of the linear accelerators. Additionally, spaces will be allocated for other services, including a renovated Emergency Department whose surface area will reach 6,000 square meters.
During the construction period, the Gregorio Marañón Hospital will replace its energy plants to maintain the center's operation. A provisional loading dock will also be established at a lower, open-air level to supply the hospital complex. Following this action, Phase I will commence, focusing on the construction of hospitalization towers and the preparation of the future goods access dock.
Upon completion of the comprehensive renovation, the Gregorio Marañón will feature an additional 175,000 square meters, 838 individual rooms, and 1,200 beds. It will also include 400 consultation rooms, multipurpose day hospitals, 12 intervention spaces, and over a hundred critical care beds.
Currently, the Gregorio Marañón public Hospital is a healthcare complex comprising more than 20 buildings, employing over 8,000 professionals, and serving approximately 23,000 people daily.
