During the closing of the event ‘You pay more, you receive less’ organized by his party in Getafe, the opposition leader defended the need for a change in the country's infrastructure management. He pointed out that Spain collects taxes like a Nordic country but offers services that do not match that income level, which he considers a "multi-organ failure" affecting various areas, including energy policy and protection systems.
“"The conclusion is that Spain collects like a Nordic country and cannot have services like a third-world country, and that must also be our commitment. The money of Spaniards must translate into better services, not into never-before-seen problems."
The leader emphasized that infrastructures are currently in one of their worst moments in the last 47 years of democracy, attributing this situation to a lack of conservation and maintenance. He cited examples such as common delays in the AVE high-speed train and potholes on roads.
To reverse this situation, the Popular Party has presented a ten-point plan of actions, including an investment of at least 300 billion euros. Among the proposed measures are a complete audit of the railway network, the recovery of compensation for delays, the approval of a "sufficient" budget for infrastructures, and the appointment of a qualified manager for this area.
Furthermore, he committed to legally ensuring that no new works are undertaken without independent certification of adequate maintenance for existing ones. He also proposed a prioritized infrastructure plan with economic memory and binding timelines, as well as restoring the prestige of the train system, including an audit and the reinstatement of compensation for users due to delays.
The ten-point plan also includes planning railway policy to serve the majority, a commitment to quality commuter rail, and railway maintenance. Finally, he reiterated his commitment to a National Water Plan and an urgent plan for the electricity grid, aiming to prevent an "opportunity blackout".
