The Hospital Universitario de Getafe has been honored at the eighth edition of the Best Spanish Hospitals Awards (BSH) for its treatment of COPD, also being a finalist in the Maternal-Infant category.

The Hospital Universitario de Getafe, part of the public healthcare network of the Community of Madrid, has received recognition at the eighth edition of the Best Spanish Hospitals Awards (BSH) in the category of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) treatment. This award acknowledges its excellent management results and follows its recognition as a finalist in the Maternal-Infant category.
The BSH Awards, organized by the consultancy firm Higia Benchmarking, evaluate the efficiency and quality of care in Spanish hospitals through key indicators. In this edition, over 5,000 indicators from more than one hundred hospitals across 11 clinical areas were analyzed.
The Hospital Universitario de Getafe boasts a strong track record in quality and management, evidenced by its EFQM 600 Seal of Excellence, an international recognition that assesses care quality, management efficiency, and innovation.
The hospital's Pneumology Service is notable for its COPD Unit, which treated nearly 400 complex patients last year. The unit includes intermediate care (UCRI) and a multidisciplinary team that has successfully reduced hospital stays, mortality, and readmission risk. Care is further supported by specialized consultations and respiratory rehabilitation programs.
This award complements other accreditations received by the Pneumology Service, such as those from SEPAR and SEAIC, for its specialized respiratory units.
In the Maternal-Infant Area, the hospital prioritizes childbirth care with the mother as the central figure, promoting a birth with minimal intervention while ensuring safety. The service offers continuous support, including a 24-hour Breastfeeding Support Phone Line and post-discharge consultations.
