The event, organized by IMDEA Materiales, the project coordinator, gathered representatives from the eight partners of the BIOMET4D consortium and external guests. The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS), represented by Verónica Campuzano, delivered a presentation on the regulation of medical devices.
Also attending were members of the Stakeholder Advisory Board, including Dr. Dylan Murray (Craniofacial Ireland), Dr. Pedro Martínez (Galician Health Service), Xabier Álvarez (APERTcras), and Frank Reinauer (KLS Martin, Germany), who shared clinical experiences and perspectives on personalized medical devices.
The BIOMET4D consortium brings together expertise in materials science, engineering, clinical practice, and industrial manufacturing. Alongside IMDEA Materiales and the UPM, partners include AMAZEMET, the Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute, Meotec GmbH, the RWTH Aachen University Hospital, Schaeffler Aerosint, and the University of Galway.
The first day featured presentations on shape-changing devices, addressing design methodologies and functional prototype demonstrations, highlighting the growing role of personalized medicine in craniofacial surgery and patient care.
The second day focused on the future development and transfer of 4D medical technologies, covering multi-material powder deposition, characterization of biodegradable and biocompatible metals, computational modeling of cranial growth, and preclinical evaluation of smart actuator devices.
