The Leganés City Council carried out a raid this past weekend in the well-known leisure area of La Cubierta. The operation, conducted jointly by the Local Police and the National Police, concluded with three individuals detained, 970 people identified, and 18 citations issued for drug possession or consumption.
This action is part of a surveillance and control operation that has been intensified over the last six months in the vicinity of the Plaza de Toros, aiming to enhance security in one of the municipality's main nightlife hubs. During the operation, eight establishments were inspected to verify compliance with capacity limits, access controls, and the absence of minors inside.
The drug checks carried out by officers resulted in the aforementioned 18 citations. The operation also extended to the access and traffic routes in the area, where 124 vehicles were inspected. Consequently, twelve fines were issued for various infractions, including driving under the influence of alcohol, drug consumption, lack of ITV (vehicle inspection), or driving without a seatbelt.
An officer from the Leganés Local Police, who coordinated the operation, explained that it was a "joint operation across the entire municipality in three main areas: the first central one in La Cubierta, focusing on nightlife establishments; and two more external rings to control the areas and traffic routes and prevent any type of infraction."
The mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, has defended the continuation of these operations, stating: "We want the La Cubierta area to be an environment for enjoyment, and I will never tire of repeating that I want scoundrels far from Leganés. This new joint intervention between the National Police and Local Police in the area is just another step within the overall plan we are working on to achieve our goal."
The officer highlighted the preventive nature of these actions, noting that "we often think that police interventions are only reactive. In this case, the main reason for action is entirely preventive, and the repetition of operations over time is proving effective, as the number of detainees and detected infractions has decreased."
He also emphasized the excellent coordination between the two police forces: "The collaboration and cooperation between the Local Police and National Police forces in Leganés is excellent. Relations are at one of their best moments in recent years, and everything is always done in a coordinated and planned manner."
The Leganés City Council has announced that it will continue to conduct periodic control operations in leisure areas and other points where coexistence and regulatory compliance need to be reinforced.
