The Independent Central Union of Civil Servants (CSIF) has reported a serious regimental incident that occurred on Saturday at Valdemoro prison. At approximately 10:00 PM, in module 8, an inmate repeatedly assaulted his cellmate, creating a situation of extreme violence.
During the intervention to separate the inmates and subdue the aggressor, who was completely out of control, a female officer sustained a hand injury.
“"This incident once again highlights the high risk faced daily by penitentiary staff in the performance of their duties."
In response to this situation, CSIF has called for the immediate approval of agent of authority status for Prison Institutions personnel. This measure is considered essential to guarantee their legal protection and reinforce the principle of authority.
Furthermore, the union has requested an increase in material and technological resources aimed at preventing the introduction of prohibited objects and substances, especially narcotics, whose consumption is directly related to episodes of violence and serious regimental incidents like the one that occurred.
They have also demanded the urgent provision of effective technological systems for drone detection, given the increasing use of these devices to introduce prohibited substances and objects into penitentiary centers, noting the current lack of adequate means for their control. CSIF has warned that it is necessary to increase the number of personnel to intensify searches, pat-downs, and security controls with appropriate guarantees.
