The initiative, promoted by the Professional Federation of Taxi of Madrid, aims to encourage app usage and sustainable mobility during the week of September 16th to 22nd. Discounts will be applied until the allocated budget for the promotion is exhausted.
As part of the celebrations, this Sunday, an exhibition tracing the evolution of taxi services in the capital will be presented along the Atocha-Cibeles axis. The display will feature iconic vehicles such as the 1914 Fiat Zero Doble Phaeton and the popular Citroën 11, known as the «pato», widely used in the 1940s and 1950s. Alongside these, modern electric models like the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y will be exhibited, reflecting the transition towards electromobility.
A preliminary preview of this exhibition took place last Wednesday on the esplanade of CentroCentro, in Plaza de Cibeles. The event was attended by the delegate for Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility, Borja Carabante, along with representatives from the main taxi associations.
Madrid's taxi fleet, currently comprising 15,754 vehicles, has undergone a significant transformation towards sustainability. Taxis with ZERO emissions classification have increased dramatically, from just 20 in 2020 to a projected 1,284 by 2026, marking a 64-fold increase in seven years. Concurrently, ECO vehicles reached 13,795 in 2025, accounting for 87.5% of the total fleet. In contrast, cars with a C classification have decreased by 82% since 2018.
This fleet renewal is supported by the «Cambia 360» grants from the Madrid City Council. Since 2020, 16.9 million euros out of a total of 140.8 million euros distributed have been allocated to subsidize the taxi sector. For the current year, up to 2.85 million euros have been reserved, offering subsidies of up to 20,000 euros for the purchase of new ZERO or ECO vehicles, and up to 10,000 euros for used ones, with the subsidy not exceeding 50% of the invoice cost.
