The San Fernando de Henares City Council has presented the new 2026-2027 season for its Seniors area, reinforcing the Municipal Active Aging Program with 1,700 places, 300 more than the previous year, and incorporating technological innovations and intergenerational projects. The program, featuring over 100 groups and 40 different proposals, aims to promote personal autonomy, healthy habits, and cognitive stimulation.
The new season, starting on October 5th, will include physical activities such as maintenance gymnastics, pilates, and zumba; craft and creative writing workshops; memory sessions; and training in new technologies and artificial intelligence. Additionally, citizen participation will be enhanced through debate groups, talks, a podcast, and Learning and Service (APS) programs, with a special focus on intergenerational projects. Over 100 senior volunteers are collaborating in this initiative.
Mayor Javier Corpa highlighted the central role of seniors as "an active part of the city" and emphasized the commitment to expanding municipal offerings to keep them active, learning, and socializing. The draw for place allocation took place on September 16th.
In commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons on October 1st, a special program has been organized. This includes a tribute to residents turning 90, 100, or more on September 27th, a dance with the Orquesta Eclipse on the same day, the participatory dance activity ‘Memoria del Gesto’ on September 29th, and the reading of a manifesto on October 1st in Plaza de España.
Furthermore, the reopening of the municipal dining hall for seniors has been announced, which has resumed operations with 40 places and healthy menus for €6.50. The City Council is preparing an expansion project with an investment of approximately €400,000 to relocate the service to the former Civil Protection facilities. Construction has already begun, and the new facilities will increase capacity and include new recreational and educational spaces.
