This Wednesday marks a crucial day for medical professionals in the Community of Madrid, as they enter the third week of their intermittent strike. The mobilizations are focused on demanding a specific Framework Statute for their collective, distinct from other healthcare categories.
The protests are taking place at two strategic locations: in the morning, in front of the University Hospital of Getafe, and in the afternoon, before the Ministry of Health. At the latter venue, the Strike Committee will reiterate its demand for “serious” negotiations to resolve the labor dispute.
The concentration in Getafe began at 10:00 AM at the hospital's main entrance, while the protest in front of the Ministry of Health is scheduled for 6:30 PM. This intermittent strike will continue until June, with further stoppages planned from May 18 to 22 and from June 15 to 19.
“"The conflict now extends beyond the Ministry of Health to become a matter for the Government."
The Strike Committee has intensified its demands, calling on the president of the Government to personally take charge of negotiations. They believe that the current Minister of Health is no longer a “valid interlocutor” and that the situation requires higher-level intervention to achieve solutions.
The Community of Madrid's Ministry of Health has estimated the economic impact of the doctors' strike at over 11.7 million euros since last December. The stoppages have resulted in the suspension of 7,357 surgeries and 152,185 consultations in Madrid's healthcare system. A meeting between the Strike Committee and the General Directorate of Human Resources of the Madrid Health Service is scheduled for Thursday the 30th.
