Thousands of students will return to classrooms next September in renovated facilities. The Getafe council has utilized the summer months to execute an extensive program of actions across 37 public schools, children's schools, and nursery centers. The primary objective has been to enhance infrastructure before the start of the new academic year, with an investment surpassing one million euros.
The interventions have covered both routine maintenance tasks and the adaptation of buildings to high temperatures, a growing concern for families and the educational community in recent years.
One of the municipal plan's priorities has been to optimize the thermal comfort of the centers. To achieve this, awnings, porches, and shade sails have been installed in various courtyards and outdoor areas. Additionally, new trees have been planted, which will contribute to increasing natural shaded areas in the coming years.
New water fountains have also been added to facilitate student hydration during the school day, especially during the hottest months.
Another significant action has been the replacement of windows in several educational centers. The aim is to improve the thermal insulation of the buildings, reducing heat entry during warm periods, increasing energy efficiency, and enhancing comfort for both students and teaching staff.
The renovation of the Mafalda Municipal Children's School stands out, having received an investment of over 364,000 euros. These works have focused on improving the building's facades and roofs, which will help reinforce climate control and energy efficiency, thereby enhancing conditions for children and professionals.
In total, the improvement actions developed this summer have reached 37 public municipal educational centers. Through this investment plan, the City Council aims for students to have access to more modern and secure facilities, prepared for educational activities and to cope with increasingly frequent heat episodes.
