The city of Getafe is preparing for the closing of its 'De Poesía por Getafe' festival, running until April 26, with a diverse cultural program that includes the celebration of International Book Day.
The 'De Poesía por Getafe' festival, held from April 15 to 26, has transformed the city into a cultural hub. Under the premise of poetry as a meeting point, the event has integrated literature, music, plastic arts, and social commitment across various locations in the municipality, with Espacio Mercado serving as its central venue.
The program commenced on April 15 with the inauguration of two exhibitions by La Carpa Creadores de Getafe: 'Haiku' at Espacio Mercado and 'Trazos y Rimas II' at the Lorenzo Vaquero exhibition hall. Notable past events include the concert by Lichis y Due Country on April 17 and the Youth Poetry Recital on April 20, both held at Espacio Mercado.
The festival, curated by a young local poet, has placed a special emphasis on emerging talent, offering a platform for young poets, both national and local. Additionally, the initiative has brought poetry to the streets and neighborhoods through reading promotion activities in the Municipal Library Network and civic centers.
On April 23, coinciding with International Book Day, Espacio Mercado will host the traditional reading of Don Quixote starting at 11:00 AM. The program will continue on April 24 with a tribute to Robe Iniesta, titled 'La rabia se volvió poesía' (Rage Turned into Poetry), taking place at 6:30 PM at the Juan de la Cierva Civic Center. The festival will conclude on April 26 with the awards ceremony for the VI Micropoem Contest 'De Poesía por Getafe', organized by the School of Writers at the María Maruka restaurant, followed by an open recital.
