The Parent-Teacher Associations (AMPAS) of Getafe have initiated a signature collection campaign to demand the removal of temporary classrooms, popularly known as 'barracones', from four educational centers in the locality.

The initiative aims to address the situation at Elisa Soriano and Xatafi high schools, as well as Miguel de Cervantes and Julio Cortázar primary schools, where students are currently taught in these provisional structures. The mayor of Getafe has publicly supported this demand, confirming the presence of these classrooms in the aforementioned centers.

"We cannot allow this, and we will use the Plenary Session to raise our voices."

Concerns also extend to delays in the construction of new educational infrastructure. In the Buenavista neighborhood, the Community of Madrid has yet to respond to two plot proposals submitted for the construction of a high school. A similar situation exists in Los Molinos, where a high school has been awaited for five years, impacting 127 sixth-grade primary students who will finish their cycle without a high school option in their neighborhood.
The adaptation of spaces in schools to accommodate new classrooms has led to the loss of essential resources such as libraries and gymnasiums, in addition to changes in dining hall schedules and the elimination of support staff. This situation, according to the associations, negatively affects educational quality and the identity of the centers.

"A school without a library is not a complete school and lacks identity, and an overcrowded school loses quality."
