The Spanish capital is bracing for a Saturday of restricted mobility due to multiple public events. Significant traffic disruptions are expected, particularly in the city center, with up to 120 lines of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) having their usual routes altered. These disruptions are compounded by works on the Cercanías network, including the closure of the Sol station for the entire weekend and modifications to lines C-3 and C-5.
One of the notable events is the XXIII Ciclonudista March, organized by the Asociación Pedalibre. Starting from Plaza de Cibeles at 12:30 PM under the slogan “naked against traffic,” it will traverse key central streets such as Alcalá, Paseo del Prado, Gran Vía, and Plaza de España. Traffic closures associated with this march will last approximately from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, affecting numerous streets and forcing route changes for up to 41 EMT bus lines.
In the afternoon, the III State Republican March will cause further restrictions between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Beginning at Puerta del Sol at 6:30 PM, it will conclude at Plaza Reina Sofía, impacting streets like Atocha and Esparteros. Approximately 25 bus lines may have their routes modified due to this event.
Additionally, closures are anticipated around Plaza de España, Gran Vía, and Callao between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM for another demonstration, affecting 18 EMT bus lines. In the afternoon, restrictions in Plaza de Colón, Serrano, and Cibeles between 5:30 PM and 9:00 PM will impact 27 bus lines. Finally, Avenida de la Albufera and Plaza de Puerto Rubio will experience disruptions between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM, affecting nine lines.
Regarding the Cercanías network, Sol station will be closed on Saturday and Sunday for tunnel improvement works. Trains on the C-3 line will terminate at Atocha, and those on the C-4 line at either Atocha or Nuevos Ministerios, depending on their origin. Travelers needing to travel between Nuevos Ministerios and Atocha are advised to use lines C-2, C-7, C-8, and C-10, which use the Recoletos tunnel. These closures will be repeated on the weekend of June 20-21.
Line C-5 will also see modifications, with trains starting and ending their routes at Atocha due to expansion works at the station. Passengers will need to transfer trains. Furthermore, the C-3 line will experience nighttime closures on weekends in June between Getafe Industrial, Pinto, and Valdemoro, with an alternative bus service and enhanced traveler information provided by Renfe.
