The works, which go beyond simple resurfacing, involve a complete remodeling of this important thoroughfare, considered one of the municipality's main arteries. The project, on which municipal architects have been working for months, aims to significantly improve the condition of the street, which has suffered from decades of neglect.
Funding for the project will come from the Regional Investment Plan (PIR), a fund that the Community of Madrid allocates to municipalities for local works, supplies, or services. The mayor, Raquel Jimeno, highlighted the importance of this investment, stating that "Peñuelas Street is one of the main arteries of our municipality, and one of the worst due to decades of lack of maintenance." Jimeno, who also heads the Urban Planning department, confirmed that while other streets will be resurfaced, the intervention on Peñuelas will be a "complete remodeling."
The mayor has asked residents for patience regarding the inconvenience the works may cause, assuring them that "it will be worth it." The intervention is scheduled to begin in the coming days and is expected to last several months.
