The city of Alcorcón is set for an intense cultural and social day this April 23, 2026, in celebration of Book Day, offering a diverse program of literary activities for all ages.

From early morning, Alcorcón's municipal libraries will be the hub of the celebration. The Almudena Grandes Municipal Library will host an Open Reading Club at 11:00 AM, focusing on Shaun Tan's work The Arrival, highlighting the fusion of image and text.
In the afternoon, activities will spread to other locations. The Los Pinos Civic Center will host a gathering organized by the Reading Club Association, featuring book reviews and poetry readings. Simultaneously, the José Hierro Library will offer a bookmark workshop for younger participants. The Fuente Cisneros Library will also hold its Open Reading Club, this time focusing on Los disparos del cazador by Rafael Chirbes, and the Nejapa Library will present Santiago Castaño's book La quina del rey.
Beyond the libraries, the Nocturna de Libros Bookstore will host a talk at 6:00 PM on “The Gods of Pre-Roman Iberia,” delivered by an expert. The cultural closing of the day, at 7:30 PM, will include a talk on the writing process with an author and a short story reading at the Los Pinos Civic Center, organized by the Alfareros del Lenguaje Association.
The day also includes a significant business event: the XIV AEPA Awards Gala, organized by the Association of Business Owners and Professionals of Alcorcón at Sala Jowke. Starting at 6:00 PM, the event will feature a dynamic proposal under the concept of the “Business Fear Virus,” which will be “combated” with awards and celebration.
Furthermore, the city is preparing for the XXXV edition of the Alcorcón Firefighters' Memorial, scheduled for May 10, 2026. This sporting event, one of Spain's oldest in its category, combines sport with a tribute to fallen firefighters, featuring a 9-kilometer course and free children's races.
In sports, AD Alcorcón suffered a 2-3 defeat against Villarreal CF B in a competitive match, complicating their promotion aspirations.
