The mayor of Aranjuez, Miguel Gómez Herrero, participated this midday in a meeting held at the Ciempozuelos Town Hall alongside the mayor of that municipality, Raquel Jimeno, and the mayors of San Martín de la Vega, Rafael Martínez; Chinchón, Juan Antonio Vega; and Villaconejos, Adolfo Pacheco. The purpose of the gathering was to address the roadmap to follow regarding the announcement of the potential construction of an energy recovery plant in the municipality of Titulcia.
During the meeting, which lasted approximately one hour, the council members expressed their "concern and unease" about the environmental impact that such an infrastructure could have on the region. According to available data, the plant could potentially burn 300,000 tons of waste annually from across the entire Community of Madrid.
For this reason, they have agreed to request a meeting with the Minister of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior of the Community of Madrid, Carlos Novillo. In this meeting, they aim to ascertain the current status of the project's environmental processing and convey the concerns of the affected municipalities.
Furthermore, the mayors believe it is essential to understand the background of the initiative and the actions developed by the Titulcia Town Hall itself to adequately assess the "Proyecto Jarama". Therefore, the mayors have agreed to request all documentation regarding the installation's file from the Titulcia council. The objective is for the municipal technicians from the five town halls to study and analyze this information to carry out the actions each municipality deems appropriate.
The council members have also committed to maintaining fluid communication among themselves to seek a common line of work that will allow them to understand the real impact and consequences this facility could have on both the region and its residents.
The priority for the town halls is to know all the background information of the "Proyecto Jarama", clarify the actions taken by each administration, and ensure that any decision made is taken with transparency, technical rigor, and full respect for legal and environmental guarantees.
